What To Do When the Heat Goes Out

Repair

Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little unluckiness, but we sometimes see heat pump problems in Muskogee during the colder seasons, when they’re needed the most to keep you toasty. While you know the team at Hix Air Conditioning Service, Inc. will always be there ASAP when you require us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to ensure a repair is necessary and save yourself some expenses if it’s not. We’ve compiled this checklist of things to test before you give us a call.

  1. It may sound strange, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to more than a few calls only to discover the thermostat or the heat pump itself is turned off.
    • Is the thermostat turned to heat? If yes, increase the temperature by five degrees to test if it turns on.
    • If everything looks correct, test your heat pump switch (if it has one) and check the fuses and circuit breaker that protect the extra heating element (if it has one).
  2. If the heat pump still hasn’t switched on, return to your thermostat.
    • Try replacing the battery, if it has one.
  3. Is an obstruction causing your heat pump to fail?
    • Check your air filters inside your air handler to make sure they’re not jamming things up.
    • Are your room heating registers open and unobstructed?

If you’ve moved through this checklist and you still need a heat pump fix, call Hix Air Conditioning Service, Inc. at 918-534-8286 and we’ll restore your home back to the welcoming and cozy place you expect this time of year.
