The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If there weren’t refrigerants, there wouldn’t be air conditioning. Over the years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be legal to produce as a result of its negative effects on the environment. Introducing R-410A To decrease environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, making it ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Muskogee because it’ll help make your AC operate efficiently, reliably and quietly, and offer the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was manufactured anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You probably should think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is completely out of production. The old refrigerant will become hard to find in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Hix Air Conditioning Service, Inc. work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump more suited to your needs. Be sure to avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
