What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little unluckiness, but we sometimes see heat pump problems in Muskogee during the colder seasons, when they’re needed the most to keep you toasty. While you know the team at Hix Air Conditioning Service, Inc. will always be there ASAP when you require us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to ensure a repair is necessary and save yourself some expenses if it’s not. We’ve compiled this checklist of things to test before you give us a call. It may sound strange, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to more than a few calls only to discover the thermostat or the heat pump itself is turned off. Inspect your thermostat to make sure it’s on, switched to the appropriate temperature and isn’t switched to cool. Then try changing the battery, if it has one. If everything looks right, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re not sure where it is) and test your fuses and circuit breaker. Double check that your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t kicked on, return to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, make sure it’s displaying the accurate time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s in fact night, it may not kick your heat on because it doesn’t understand that you’re home. Is an obstruction causing your furnace to not work? Inspect your air filters to make sure they’re not blocking things up. Do you have any blocked ducts, vents or cool air entries? Are all supply registers open? Is your exhaust flue open? If you’ve gone through this checklist and you’re still deprived of heat, call Hix Air Conditioning Service, Inc. at 918-682-8238 or arrange an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the toasty and cozy place it should be.
